After 15 years of service for the ‘blue whale’ it was sold by Onorato and will operate between Spain and Algeria
A new chapter has been written in the Moby fleet renewal plan: the company controlled by the Onorato family and 49% owned by Gianluigi Aponte’s MSC has in fact sold the Moby Corse ferry.
This was confirmed by some industry sources SHIPPING ITALY explaining that the sale price should be just under 8 million euros.
Last voyage
After completing its last voyage between the ports of Bastia and Genoa, the ship in question is now in the ship repair area of the Ligurian capital and will formally pass into the hands of its new owner by the end of September.
The buyer
Regarding the buyer, the available information is unclear, it seems that the company that purchased the Moby Corse was formed by Croatian interests while the ferry seems almost certainly destined to operate on a line connecting Spain and Algeria.
The shipping lines most likely to be the next operator of the ship are therefore Algerie Ferries (Enmtv) or, more likely, the newly formed Nouris Elbahr Ferries.
Ship Cracovia
The latter has already welcomed the ro-pax ship Cracovia into its fleet to serve the Marseille—Algiers line. Three other connections announced by the new shipping company will be between Alcante and Algeria, between Alicante and Oran, and finally between Bajaia and Marseille.

Corsican market
Built by the Danish shipyard Aalborg and delivered in 1978, the Moby Corse (ex Pont L’Abbè) has 46 years of service behind it. In 2009, Vincenzo Onorato purchased it (at a price of around 7 million) to enter the Corsican market on the Toulon—Bastia route.

The ferry is 153 metres long (an essential condition according to the shipowner to be able to enter some ports on the French Riviera at the time) and her width is 25.7 meters. She has a garage capacity of 400 cars and 1,120 passengers.MOBY CORSE (IMO: 7615414) is a Ro-Ro/Passenger Ship and is sailing under the flag of Italy.
Dfds Seaways
Before joining the ranks of Moby, it had sailed for Dfds Seaways, from 1978 to 2006, first under the name of Dana Anglia and then as Duke of Scandinavia, and later for Brittany Ferries.
Once it arrived in Italy, it was entrusted to the Palumbo shipyard in Naples for a large refit before entering service for Moby in the spring of 2010.
