2 ships stopped in the port of Genoa due to serious irregularities

Selected with the targeting system developed by the Coast Guard General Command, they were actually found to be out of compliance and forced to resolve the critical issues

The Coast Guard has ordered the administrative detention of two merchant ships in the port of Genoa, among the ten inspected since the beginning of the year, as part of the environmental and safety control activities conducted by Port State Control personnel on foreign vessels in transit in our ports according to shipping Italy

Two detention orders

At the end of in-depth checks – according to a note from the Maritime Directorate of Liguria – two detention orders were issued against the Commander and Salammbo ships, which highlighted serious deficiencies in terms of navigation safety and environmental protection.

The Commander ship ,the first

The Commander ship, the first of the two to be stopped, is a general cargo ship flying the Vanuatu flag, with over 30 years of service and a tonnage of approximately 3,000 tons. It was selected thanks to the targeting system developed by the Coast Guard General Command.

The system, in line with the objectives of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, analyzes a series of data relating to ships, considering elements such as the company’s performance, the flag and the results of previous inspections (https://www.parismou.org/detentions-banning/white-grey-and-black-list).

Analysis of the data

The analysis of the data, in particular the low performance of the company and the shortcomings already reported in a previous inspection, made it possible to identify the ship as a priority for control.

The vessel, after three days of detention, was authorized to leave again (it is sailing towards Turkey) following a re-inspection which verified the resolution of the technical, operational and documentary critical issues, in collaboration with the State flag and the Classification Society.
