A load of 280 kg placed inside “some suspicious containers”
The Customs port is confirmed as an “important crossroads for illicit trafficking”
The Customs Agencyannounced that it had stopped, in “close collaboration” with the Provincial Command of Reggio Calabria of the Guardia di Finanza, a 280 kg load of very pure quality cocaine ٍ Shipping Italy reported
It happened during “a careful operational analysis activity and constant monitoring of commercial shipments” in transit through the port. Once placed on the market, the drug could have brought in proceeds of around 40 million euros.
The narcotic, explains the Customs note, was inside “some suspicious containers”, the origin of which, however, was not disclosed.
To allow the load to be identified, a joint action implemented with scanner equipment and the aid of supplied canine units
The port of Gioia Tauro – concludes the note – “confirms itself as an important crossroads of illicit trafficking” to combat which an effective control device has long been put in place by the Guardia di Finanza and the Agency which, under the coordination of Judicial Authorities, systematically develop their activity to combat international drug trafficking, to protect the legality, health and safety of the country and the European Union
