According to the Intermodal broker, a double order worth 5.25 billion dollars for 30 new dual-fuel LNG ships has just been placed in China
Hapag Lloyd has selected two Chinese shipyards for its next fleet expansion, orders worth $5.25 billion if all options are exercised, making it one of the largest container ship orders in history.
Yangzijiang Shipbuilding
According to shipping broker Intermodal, the German carrier has commissioned Yangzijiang Shipbuilding to build 10 ships plus five 17,000 TEU dual-fuel LNG options, at a cost of $210 million each. The ships will have 1,600 reefer slots each.

Additionally, Hapag-Lloyd has partnered with New Times Shipbuilding for another ten firm and five optional 9,200 TEU boxships, priced at $140 million each.
The orders, which add 393,000 slots to Hapag Lloyd‘s capacity, will consolidate the German carrier’s position as the world’s fifth-largest container company and come less than four months after the carrier abandons its Asian partners in The Alliance for form Gemini Cooperation with Maersk
Aggressive fleet growth
