The port authority estimates a July in countertrend to +4%
In the first semester 2024 the port of Ravenna has enlivened altogether 12.612.337 tons of goods, 5.8% less than in the same period last year.Shipping Italy reported

This is said by the data processed by the Analysis and Statistics Service (Operational Director) of the port authority of the port of call. The landings have been pairs to 10.897.423 tons and the boardings pairs to 1.714.914 tons (respectively, -7.1% and +3.4%),
Increase (+3.6%)
While they turn out in increase (+3.6%) the touched ship, pairs to 1,273 (+46). In June in particular the movements were pairs to 2,179.109 tons (-5.5% on the same month of 2023).
More specifically, in the first half of the year the dry goods fell by 7.6% to 10,252,225 tons, those in containers of 6.8% to 1,181,468 tons, while the rolling stock recorded a decrease of 5% to 892.386 tons.
liquid products
On the other hand, liquid products increased, with a recovery of 2.5% to 2,362,112 tons. In the half-year, the agri-food sector (food and agricultural products) also decreased by 11.6% to 2,402,875 tonnes.
Cereals and Oilseeds
Looking even more in detail at the individual products, cereals are down 37.8% to 608.453 tons. In contrast, the handling of flours increases by 34.8% to 634,013 tons.
In negative (-5%) the oilseeds at 603,785 tons, as well as animal and vegetable oils, which mark a -15.6% to 285.711 tons.
Oil products
The building materials, with a total of 2,034,211 tons, show a decline of 14.1%. Among these, those for the production of Sassuolo ceramics fall by 16.2% to 1,820,023 tons. Metallurgists flex 7.9% to 2,983,113 tons, while oil products gained 10.7% with 1,401,841 tonnes handled.
Cliasing figure
The trend of chemicals (+5.5%), with 575,467 tons (of which 529,875 tons of liquid chemicals) and the cliasing figure was also positive, with a handling of 976,663 tons (+8.6%).
Crisis Red Sea.
Passing to the containers, the Analysis and Statistics Service signals handling in decrease of 7% to 107,505 Teu, with a bending both on the solids (82.167, -6.8%) and on the voids (25,338, – 7.5%), for effect of the crisis situation in the Red Sea.
Touches of portacontainer
In tons, the goods in the box record a decrease of 6.8% to 1,181,468 tons, while the number of touches of portacontainer is stable (229 against 228). As said on the rotabili, on the other hand, a decrease is observed (-5%) in tons, compared to an increase of 12.0% for the number of pieces handled (49,587 units).
BMW shipments
In this segment, automotive traffic is positively distinguished by 11,632 pieces, 8,970 more than in the same period of 2023) thanks in particular to BMW shipments to East Asia. As for trailers and other vehicles – handled almost entirely on the Ravenna-Brindisi-Catania line – in the period there were 37.955 (-8.8%), with a recovery however in June (7,275 units, +3.3%).
Cruise ships
Looking at the cruise ships, the analysis recorded 33 ports of call in the half-year of the first six months of 2023), for a total of 88,090 passengers (-2.6%), of which 721,733 in home port.
Rail traffic
Turning to rail traffic this in the first half of the year records 4,074 trains (+21.6%), with handling for 1,8829.536 tons (+16.3%) and an increase also on the number of wagons (37,300, +21.2%). Its incidence on maritime traffic in the 6 months is 14.5%.
Intermodal connection
In this field, the segment of the goods in container is distinguished positively (+19.714 tons; +21.7% on 2023) and the
Teu, +44.6% thanks also to the positive result of the intermodal connection with Rivalta Scrivia and the traffic of BMW from Germany.
14.9 million tons
Looking then already to the month of July, the port authority estimates a total handling of almost 2.3 million tons (+4.0%), given that it would bring the port of call to close the first seven months of the year with a total handling of almost 14.9 million tons (-4.4%).
Positive trend
In the month in particular there is a positive trend of the liquid agri-food (+106.1%) and the liquid chemicals for the materials from construction (+35.6%) and for the oil exchanges (+26.2%), while the solid agri-foods (- 8.7%), the fertilizers (-25.1%) and the metallurgical ones (-9.4%), as well as the goods in container (-14.1%) and on trailers (-9.5%).
The seven months
In the progressive of the seven months, given the estimates, it would be observed an increase in liquid chemicals (+7.7%), fertilizers (+5.8%) and oil (+13.1%) and against a decrease (-5.0%) of liquid and solid agri-food (-10%). Construction materials (-7.3%), and metallurgical (-8.2%) also decreased over the seven months.
Negative the estimate
Negative also the estimate in the first 7 months for the container, with a bending of 8.6% in Teu (121 thousand Teu) and 7.7% in tons. In decrease also the number of trailers and other vehicles, previewed at 44,700 (with a bending of 4.8% in tons).
