A boat collides with a coral reef at Sharm El Sheikh

The safari boat “Fire Bird” was involved in a collision with fossilized coral reefs in the Nabq area of Sharm El Sheikh city in Egypt  while sailing from Hurghada city towards Dahab,in South Sinai Governorate passing through Sharm El Sheikh,at the entrance to the Gulf of Aqaba for the purpose of enjoying a safari trip. The collision resulted in water entering the boat.

Egyptian authorities rescued seven foreigners and Egyptians, as well as seven other crew members, from the sinking This came after the Red Sea Chamber of Diving and Marine  ( CDWS ) Activities received a report stating that the Firebird tourist boat had sustained significant damage and had entered the water as a result of a marine accident and collision with a coral reef.

The CDWS also confirmed that it is awaiting the results of the ongoing investigations to determine the circumstances and causes of the accident and to hear the crew’s statements.

Initial investigations

Initial investigations revealed that the boat was carrying seven divers (four German tourists, one Swiss tourist, and two Egyptians), in addition to the seven-member crew, and was on its way to Dahab at the time of the accident.

Upon receiving the report, the Chamber took immediate action, notifying the relevant authorities and initiating rescue operations for all those on board.

According to investigations, the passengers and crew are safe and uninjured. They have been assured that they will receive the necessary care and be accommodated in suitable hotels until the completion of official procedures.

Meanwhile, the competent authorities, in cooperation with the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the Chamber of Diving and Marine Activities CWDS  continue to provide full support to the survivors of the accident and meet their needs until the investigations are completed by the relevant authorities.
