ABS to Class Two New Seatrium FPSOs for Petrobras

Contract Follows Historic Technology MOU between ABS and Seatrium

(SINGAPORE) ABS was awarded Classification by Seatrium for their newbuild floating production storage and offloading vessels (FPSOs), platforms P-84 and P-85, that will be delivered to Petrobras.

These are the first FPSOs to be awarded following ABS and Seatrium’s historic Technology Collaboration Agreement (TCA), that will promote increased decarbonization, digitalization and innovation in the offshore industry. Seatrium and ABS will explore digital enabled lifecycle services – redefining a lifecycle management approach for offshore, marine and energy assets with state-of-the-art technology.

Both FPSOs will incorporate advanced technologies that promise to enhance operational efficiency and reduce the environmental impact.

Features will include zero routine flaring and venting, variable speed drives and measures to control emissions and capture CO2, including an all-electric concept, which focuses on efficient power generation and increased energy efficiency to achieve a 30 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions intensity.

“This is an exciting moment for the industry, and we are delighted to work with Seatrium on brand-new, state-of-the-art designs. The industry is going through tremendous change, and we are in a challenging market with limited supply and increasing demand for capacity. These new units are much needed assets that will be ready to meet the demand, support the energy transition and incorporate digitalization,” said Christopher J. Wiernicki, ABS Chairman and CEO

“This latest collaboration is part of Seatrium’s strategy to complement our product offerings with end-to-end digital solutions that meet the evolving needs of our customers globally. We look forward to working with ABS to leverage digital technology to develop innovative solutions that will help our customers optimize their operations, reduce environmental impact and drive long-term sustainable growth,” said Lim Shih Hsien, Executive Vice President, Cyber IT and OT at Seatrium.

The high throughput platforms will be deployed in the Atapu and Sépia fields, located in the eastern part of the Santos Basin, approximately 200 kilometers offshore of Rio de Janeiro.

Qatar Shipyard Receives Remote Survey Approval from ABS

On the other hand , ABS approved a range of ship repair and retrofit work processes for remote survey at Qatar Shipyard and Technology Solutions.

ABS tested, validated and approved remote survey techniques at Qatar Shipyard and Technology Solutions for a number of survey tasks which included rudder clearance inspection; stern tube weardown inspection; and rudder plug opening inspection.

It is the culmination of the JDP, which explored how techniques developed by ABS for its industry leading program of remote survey of vessels in service can optimize scheduling and minimize downtime for the shipyard, vessels and ABS surveyors. The framework established in these activities will serve as the foundation for expanded projects.
