Cetena :Simulator for the Navy’s wire-guided underwater vessels

Equipped with a cutting-edge augmented reality system, the simulator has been designed for immersive and realistic training for underwater operations.

The first advanced simulator that combines virtual and augmented reality for the driving and maintenance of wire-guided underwater vehicles (Remotely Operated Vehicles – Rov), intended for the Navy, was developed by Cetena,Shipping Italy reported

Cetena, is the Fincantieri Group’s naval and maritime research and engineering consultancy center

Complex scenarios

The system was designed for immersive and realistic training, integrating 3D models, digital technical manuals and operating procedures to support the Navy’s work in delicate and complex scenarios and missions.

Unprecedented technical

“This systemic simulator represents a significant technological advancement in training for underwater operations and was created by capitalizing on years of experience in the sector, with highly specialized operational personnel and new collaborations

Also with industrial partners that have allowed us to achieve unprecedented technical fidelity,” Cetena explains in a note.

Nato Dynamic Move

The augmented reality simulator was presented in La Spezia, at the Mine Countermeasures Forces Command (Maricodrag), in the presence of Admiral Gianguido Manganaro and over 60 military and civilian personnel from approximately 15 different nations, participating in the concurrent Nato Dynamic Move 24-II exercise.

The facility features a cutting-edge augmented reality (AR) system that superimposes, in real time, digital information (manuals, 3D models, multimedia content, etc.) onto the surrounding physical environment.

Naval simulation

On the other hand the activities planned for this system are two experiments; the first concerns remote support – said Frigate Captain Claudio Cuomo – during remotely guided maintenance interventions and the second enables an unprecedented level of realism in familiarization and training sessions for the preparation of wire-guided vehicles”.

“Cetena is proud to collaborate with the Navy – said Dr. Massimo Debenedetti, CEO of Cetena – and to continue to provide highly technological and innovative solutions in the field of naval simulation”.
