DP World Breaks Ground on Duke Point Terminal Expansion, Strengthening Vancouver Island’s Global Connectivity
Mundra International Container Terminal Reports Significant Volume Growth in FY 24-25 Mundra International Container Terminal (MICT), a part of DP World, has demonstrated substantial growth in the fiscal year 2024-25, according to India Shipping News.
Highest-ever monthly volume
The terminal handled 1,497,228 TEUS in FY 24-25, marking a 13% increase compared to the 1,323,468 TEUS handled in FY 23-24.During this period, MICT serviced 762 vessels, representing a 6.57% rise from the previous fiscal year.
Furthermore, DP World Mundra achieved its highest-ever monthly volume in March 2025, processing 138,983 TEUS. This figure surpasses the previous record of 138,000 TEUS set in January 2025.

First direct service
The terminal has expanded its global reach by introducing its first direct service, MECL, from Mundra to the United States East Coast.Additionally, DP World Mundra offers MEI1/MX service under the Gemini Cooperation, providing direct weekly connections between the Indian Subcontinent, Middle East, and Europe.

Container Freight Station
DP World Mundra features a 50-acre Container Freight Station located at the port gate. Duke Point Terminal Expansion
On the other hand DP World, a global leader in logistics and supply chain solutions, officially launched construction of the Duke Point Terminal expansion today, aimed at significantly enhancing Vancouver Island’s connectivity and trade resilience with global markets. Representatives from the Snuneymuxw First Nation, Port of Nanaimo, and DP World marked the occasion with a ceremonial land blessing and sod-turning event.

Snuneymuxw First Nation
With support from Snuneymuxw First Nation and the Port of Nanaimo, DP World’s Duke Point Terminal project will significantly increase operational efficiency and handling capacities. Once completed, the terminal’s berth length will nearly double from 182 metres to 325 metres, while cargo-handling capacity will expand to 280,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) annually.
Serve larger international vessels
This will enable Duke Point Terminal to serve larger international vessels, provide improved services for importers and exporters, and facilitate smoother regional and international trade. Additionally, the project establishes a robust short-sea shipping connection between Nanaimo and Vancouver, improving trade routes to key Asian markets.
