Environmental standards
The 2024 is, at the moment, a record year for the number of orders of new ships equipped with dual fuel.
The growth of orders of this type has been strong in recent years, clearly linked to the entry into force of increasingly stringent and widespread environmental standards, but in the first half of the current year the pace has undergone further acceleration, as a recent report published in summary by the analyst Veson Nautical.
Dual fuel ships
The graph we publish at the opening is eloquent. Orders for dual fuel ships were only 13 in all of 2018. Up to 2023 the number of orders has grown at a fast pace, reaching 88 ships (37.5% of average annual growth rate), but this year the orders are already at 151, almost 72% more than all 2023.
Tanker sector
Significant as, after years in which it was the owner of the tanker sector, for a couple of years in contraction as to dual fuel orders, the explosion of 2024 is linked to the orders of new carriers, the effect clearly of the dynamics of the rise of the noles.
New Times Shipbuilding
According to Veson, one of the most recent and significant portacontenitori orders concerns 12 18 thousand Teu Ulvs commissioned to the Chinese shipyard New Times Shipbuilding for the delivery of between 2028 and 2029 to 210 million dollars each.
East Pacific Shipping
The order would have been placed by the East Pacific Shipping of Singapore on the basis of a charter agreement already signed with CMACGM
