Fire on board the Moby Ale Due ship, while it was covering the route from Porto Torres to Genoa on the evening of Thursday, December 19.Shipping Italy reported
The alarm was raised
The alarm was raised around 10 pm, due to a small fire caused by a refrigerated truck which, the blue whale company reports in a note, was “immediately extinguished and put out by activating the fixed water spray system. No damage was caused to the people on board, including the crew”.
After casting off from the Turritan port
About two hours after casting off from the Turritan port, the Moby Ale Due was forced to reverse course and return to port, where the Fire Department and the Port Authority were waiting to carry out the first inspections.
Once the safety conditions had been verified, the 268 passengers on board were able to spend the night in cabins made available free of charge by the company.
The passengers were re-routed to another line
The passengers were re-routed to another line: at dawn on December 20, they were able to reach the port of Olbia with buses organised by Moby, where they were boarded on the Moby Tommy, which left for Genoa.
Passengers were promptly informed of the precautionary return of the ship to Porto Torres – the company says – and maximum assistance was provided: cabins were assigned to them free of charge for the night.
Moby apologizes to passengers
Moby apologizes to passengers for the inconvenience, thanks the crew and firefighters for the professionalism shown in the prompt and punctual intervention, which immediately secured the ship and the people on board”.
The incident on the Moby Ale Due
The incident on the Moby Ale Due is the second accident in two days involving Moby ships. On the evening of Wednesday, December 18, a blackout on board the Moby Zaza, sailing from Porto Vecchio to Golfo Aranci, left the ferry adrift until the arrival of tugboats that towed it to the port of Olbia, where it arrived a couple of hours late.
First accident Just over a week ago
Just over a week ago, on December 11, the Moby Ale Due from Genoa to Porto Torres departed from the Ligurian port with a six-hour delay, at 2:45, after a series of announcements about the postponements of the departure scheduled for 8:30 pm on Tuesday, December 10. The company reported “a small technical problem with a system” that forced the captain to delay the departure.
