Sailorsbay – The App Built by Sailors, for Sailors
For sailors Lee and Karolina, life afloat is more than a dream — it’s their reality. Through their YouTube channel Good Deeds Sailing, they share the highs and lows of preparing their yacht Good Deeds for a voyage around the world. But in the middle of those preparations, an unexpected challenge sparked an idea that would grow into something bigger than their own journey
A mountain of spares, tools
After replacing their engine, the couple found themselves surrounded by a mountain of spares, tools, and parts. Perfectly good equipment — but no longer of any use to them. “We realised we weren’t the only ones,” explains Lee. “Every sailor we met seemed to have gear stashed away that someone else could desperately use. The problem was, there was no easy way to connect those dots.”
The concept of Sailorsbay began
From that moment, the concept of Sailorsbay began to take shape: a digital harbour where sailors and boaters could trade parts, offer or find odd jobs, share skills, advertise crew spaces, and pass on local knowledge — wherever they happened to be in the world.
Karolina recalls, “I’ve always loved the community spirit of sailing. On the dock you can borrow a spanner, find out which chandlery stocks a rare fitting, or share a tip about the best bakery in town. We wanted to take that experience and make it possible even when you’re hundreds of miles from your home marina.”
Sailorsbay is more than just an app — it’s a way to sustain adventures. By encouraging reuse and resource-sharing, it reduces waste and keeps sailors moving without waiting weeks for deliveries or spending beyond their budget. For those cruising long-term, it can also mean picking up extra income through local jobs or finding the right crew member to share a passage.
Launched for iOS and Android, Sailorsbay is already attracting sailors, liveaboards, and maritime nomads eager to stay connected. “The sea has always been about community,” says Lee. “We just built a tool to make that community stronger.”
As Lee and Karolina continue their own journey toward a circumnavigation, they hope Sailorsbay will help others do the same — keeping the old traditions of harbour camaraderie alive, but reimagined for the modern age.
