Adding “TRE” Service by “Hapag-Lloyd” to Jeddah Islamic Port
King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam, represented by its strategic partner, the operator of the two container terminals at the port, Saudi Global Ports (SGP), has received three quay cranes (QC) with automated operation capabilities and three rubber-tyred gantry cranes (RTG). This brings the total number of quay cranes to 18, in addition to 50 RTGs, contributing to the development of the port’s infrastructure and enabling it to efficiently and easily handle giant ships.
This aligns with Saudi Global Ports’ commitment to developing King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam into a competitive and sustainable global hub, in accordance with the commercial outsourcing contracts it signed with the Saudi Ports Authority, worth seven billion riyals.
The new cranes have the capability to reach at least 25 rows, which helps in accommodating advanced and large ships with full productivity and high efficiency. Saudi Global Ports, in cooperation with Mawani, aims to enhance its operations by raising and qualifying the skills of human resources through the use of modern cranes.
This supports the Saudi ports system and strengthens the Kingdom’s growing role in the global logistics services chain, in line with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS), to solidify the Kingdom’s standing as a global logistics hub bridging three continents. It is worth noting that the outsourcing projects at King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam contribute to providing more than 4,000 job opportunities.
This supports the efforts of the Saudi Ports Authority in enhancing the ports and logistics sector, increasing the reliability of supply chains, boosting the movement of national imports and exports, and improving the Kingdom’s ranking in international indices.
On the other hand the Saudi Ports Authority “Mawani” announced the addition of the new shipping service Red Sea Express “TRE” by Hapag-Lloyd to Jeddah Islamic Port. This move aims to enhance economic relations between the Kingdom and ports worldwide and to meet the increasing demands of international trade in the region.
This initiative is part of Mawani’s strategy to strengthen the connectivity of the Kingdom’s ports with global ports and to attract major global shipping companies. It aligns with the objectives of the National Transport and Logistics Strategy (NTLS), which aims to solidify the Kingdom’s standing as a global logistics hub bridging the three continents.
The new shipping service connects Jeddah Islamic Port with the ports of Istanbul, Izmit, and Aliaga in Turkey, and Aqaba in Jordan, through regular weekly trips with a capacity of up to 1,130 TEUs.
It is noteworthy that Jeddah Islamic Port is undergoing continuous development efforts by Mawani to position it among the top 10 ports globally. This year, the Northern Container Terminal saw the completion of improvements and developments with investments amounting to 6.6 billion riyals, enhancing its operational capabilities and increasing its capacity. The port includes 62 multi-purpose berths, several specialized terminals, and advanced equipment, with a total capacity of up to 130 million tons.
