After 20 months under special administration, the Port System Authority of Genoa and Savona has a new president according to Shipping Italy
A statement from the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport announced that “Vice President of the Council and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Matteo Salvini, has signed the decree appointing attorney Matteo Paroli as president of the Western Ligurian Sea Port System Authority.
The appointment, which came at the end of the required institutional process, concerns one of Italy’s main ports, which includes the ports of Genoa, Savona, Vado Ligure, and Pra’. This signature consolidates the new phase for the Western Ligurian Sea port system.
The appointment came just days after the Florence Court of Appeals ordered Paroli to pay civil damages for an act of forgery, a statute of limitations, for which he was accused in connection with his duties as manager of the Livorno Port Authority.
Whereas the appointment followed a nearly unanimous favorable opinion from the Chamber of Deputies’ Transport Committee (his Senate colleagues had previously expressed a similar opinion), but it evidently did not dissuade Salvini from his decision.
Paroli said : “I take on the role of President of the Western Ligurian Sea Port System Authority with a profound sense of responsibility and genuine pride, and I want to express my sincere thanks for the trust placed in me by the Vice President of the Council of Ministers and Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Senator Matteo Salvini, and the Deputy Minister, Edoardo Rixi.
He added : This is a complex role, full of responsibility, but I approach it with enthusiasm, aware of the challenges facing our port system in an ever-evolving international context and of the strategic value that the ports of Genoa and Savona have for our country.
