Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Prime Minister, and Mr. Andrej Plenkovic, Prime Minister of Croatia, witnessed today at the government headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, the signing ceremony of a MoU for cooperation between the Alexandria Port Authority and the Croatian Rijeka Port Authority, to enhance bilateral cooperation in the fields of maritime transport and logistics, infrastructure development, exchange of technological expertise, and raising the efficiency of operational processes, in a way that supports achieving environmental and technical sustainability and increasing the volume of trade exchange between the two countries

TheĀ  MoU was signed by: Rear Admiral AhmedĀ  Hawash, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Alexandria Port Authority, and Mr. Ivan Jaksic, Vice President of the Port of Rijeka in the Republic of Croatia.

Achieve a qualitative leap in the relations

Dr. Mostafa Madbouly emphasized that the memorandum of understanding ( MoU ) aims to achieve a qualitative leap in the relations between Egypt and Croatia in the field of maritime transport, and opens new horizons for economic and regional cooperation, in line with Egypt’s Vision 2030 to maximize the role of ports as strategic trade gateways,

Added :the Port of Alexandria is considered Egypt’s main maritime gateway to the Mediterranean, as this vital port handles approximately 60% of Egyptian exports and imports, while at the same time the Port of Rijeka is the most prominent Croatian port on the Adriatic Sea, and Croatia’s window to the markets of Central and Eastern Europe.

Linking Southern Europe with Africa

The Prime Minister pointed out that this cooperation reflects the mutual trust between the two countries, and contributes to linking Southern Europe with Africa via the ports of Rijeka and Alexandria, which enhances the developmental role of ports in the Mediterranean region.

Ā Ų£Hawash said on the directives of Lieutenant General Engineer Kamel El-Wazir, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development, Minister of Industry and Transport, in order to reach a final formula for the memorandum of understanding that ensures the achievement of common goals and serves to facilitate trade movement between the two ports by studying the establishment of joint shipping lines, implementing bilateral investments in port projects, transferring expertise, and building capacities in the fields of port management, digital transformation, environment, maritime security, and enhancing integration.

Ā Chairman of APA added “The partnership between the two ports is expected to contribute to attracting joint European and African investments, reducing shipping time between the two continents, and supporting economic integration between the two countries within regional blocs, especially since serious and immediate steps will be taken to activate the memorandum of understanding by the two sides forming a joint committee to follow up on the implementation of the memorandum’s provisions, with the start of technical negotiations in the coming weeks to determine priorities for cooperation and joint projects,”
