According to the latest data published by Alphaliner, the global carrier founded and controlled by Aponte currently owns 577 container ships, 294 are in charter and 132 new constructions will be added to these
In a few years, one container out of three transported by sea could be entrusted to MSC ships.
This is one of the most relevant data highlighted by the analysis and research company Alphaliner which, in its latest update on the existing and under construction hold capacity for container ships (Alphaliner TOP 100 of November 19), underlines how the fleet already active today of Mediterranean Shipping Company is continuing to grow and has exceeded the threshold of 6.2 million TEU of available capacity.
Over 3.2 million TEU
The Geneva-based shipping company chaired and controlled by Gianluigi Aponte in fact controls 577 ships for a total of over 3.2 million TEU of hold, to which we must add a further 294 container ships operated in charter for a total market share (hold supply side) of 20.1%.
Portfolio of new ships of MSC
Alphaliner recalls that in the last four months the order portfolio of new ships of MSC has grown by 32% in terms of quantity of new buildings and by 60.3% in terms of hold capacity (TEU). Once in service, underlines the French analysis company, the new ships currently ordered or under construction will allow MSC to control a fleet that will account for over 31% of the total hold capacity existing in the world for the transport of containers by sea.
