PPA clocks the fastes 50 MMT cargo throughput in the port’s history

Bhubaneswar: Cargo throughput of Paradip Port Authority (PPA) in Odisha zoomed past 50 MMT (Million Metric Tonnes) mark in current fiscal.

PPA has made an impressive beginning to FY 24-25 and total cargo volume has reached 50.16 MMT within the first four months, which is the fastest ever in the port’s history.

Incremental growth

In the current fiscal, the coveted mark was achieved 8 days in advance compared to last year and the Port has clocked an incremental growth of 5.16 % in comparison to corresponding period of previous fiscal, an official release reported

Coal, Iron ore and pellets

Coal cargo which constitutes a major chunk of cargo volume has reached 23.11 MMT exhibiting a growth of 6.72% over the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.

Iron ore and pellets have reached 9 MMT showing a growth of 20.74% and container cargo has grown by 85.07% over the same period.

150 MMT Cargo

PPA Chairman P L Haranadh has said that team PPA, with utmost dedication and meticulous planning has made the enhanced target look easy. “The way, the team has contributing, I am confident that PPA will surpass 150 MMT Cargo throughput mark in the current fiscal,” he said

Strategically situated

Paradip Port is strategically situated so as to serve a vast hinterland spreading over the states of Odisha, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and West Bengal. Paradip Port enjoys the advantages of soft underwater soil, so that it can be deepened to any depth depending upon the need.

18  berths

The Port is now equipped with 18  berths, 3 (three) Single Point Moorings (SPM), 1 (one) Ro-Ro Jetty, a well maintained Approach  Channel having 18.7 Mtrs depth and Entrance Channel having 17.1 Mtrs minimum depth to handle a wide range of vessels up to maximum LOA of 300 Mtrs.

(VTMS) system

The Port has 6 (six) nos. of tugs equipped with SRP, 4 of which have a Bollard Pull of 50 Tons, 01 Tug have a bollard Pull of 60 Tons and 1 Tug have a Bollard Pull of 45 Tons .

A Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS) is fully operational in this port for controlling & monitoring of shipping movement (Inward, outward & shifting).
