Canal’s navigation activity on Wednesday witnessed the passage of 33 ships in both directions, with a total net tonnage of 1.4 million tons.
Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority ( SCA ) stated today, Wednesday, that navigation in the Canal is regular in both directions and was not affected by the sinking of the ADMARINE12 drilling rig in the Jabal al-Zeit area at the entrance to the Gulf of Suez, 130 nautical miles from the southern entrance to the Suez Canal in the Red Sea.
Rabie sent a reassuring message regarding the regularity of navigation in the Canal at its normal rate, and that it was not affected by the incident, which occurred outside the Suez Canal’s waterway.
He explained that the Authority’s Crisis and Disaster Management Center is closely monitoring the developments of the incident as part of its role in coordinating with external agencies to manage crises occurring outside the Canal’s waterway.
Admiral Rabie affirmed the Authority’s readiness to cooperate with relevant authorities to provide the necessary assistance, if required, in support of the state’s efforts to achieve integrated central crisis management. He noted in this regard the Authority’s integrated system, replete with navigational competencies and accumulated experience in maritime rescue operations, as well as specialized naval units in maritime rescue, maritime insurance, and pollution control.
