Salerno, Italy (Ports Europe) October 1, 2024 – The local port authority has approved a Port of Salerno – a €40 million development plan which aims to increase cargo traffic as well as boost the local economy and employment
In the first class
The commercial port of Salerno is registered in the first class of the second category of national sea ports.The Port is protected to the East by the 350 meter long Outer Pier and to the South by the 1,550 meter long Levante Pier and to the South West by the 1,180 meter long Ponente Pier.
The gates open
The commercial area extends from the border with the Municipality of Vietri sul Mare to the root of Molo 3 January.
The gates open to vehicular transit are those of the Molo di Ponente and the Molo Trapezio. The road access gate to Molo Manfredi is located at the end of the road of the same name.

It is among the top regional ports for container handling and among the top hubs for new cars. Freight and passenger traffic is constantly growing thanks to the activation of new regular lines and the modernization works of the port infrastructure.

The new Passenger Terminal, with the Maritime Station designed by star architect Zaha Hadid, is a few steps from the city centre, in a tourist area of very high landscape, historical, cultural and archaeological value.

Intesa Sanpaolo is supporting Salerno Container Terminal’s investment plan with a €5 million loan, covered by a SACE financial guarantee, aimed at:
- supplementing the company resources allocated for the acquisition of the container business of Amoruso Giuseppe S.p.A.
- setting up a new border freight control post
Revitalising the maritime economy
Allowing the company, which carries out cargo unloading and loading terminal activities, to consolidate its role as an operator at the Port of Salerno.
