The sustainability of global supply chains.
For his part Agmiral Osama Rabie emphasized, that the passage of such ships gives a positive indication of the desire of many ship owners and operators to cross the Suez Canal due to its strategic importance for global trade movement in light of the savings it achieves in time, cost and fuel consumption, making it the ideal and fastest option for the sustainability of global supply chains.
The Chairman of SCA explained that the amount of savings achieved by the Suez Canal for the journey between the port of Shanghai in China and the port of Dernis in Turkey reaches about 45%, as the journey distance is about 14,600 nautical miles via the Cape of Good Hope route, while it reaches about 8,071 nautical miles via the Suez Canal, which is reflected in achieving a saving in travel time of about 18 days, and thus achieving savings in operating economics and fuel consumption and the resulting reduction in the level of harmful carbon emissions.
On the other hand Captain HUANG YAN FEI, the ship’s captain, confirmed that the Chinese shipping line chose to cross the Suez Canal because it is the shortest route between Europe and Asia, while taking the Cape of Good Hope route requires sailing long distances in bad weather and thus consuming more fuel, which harms the marine environment.
