Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority SCA witnessed today, Wednesday, the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding MoU to exchange views with the Omani Integrated Logistics Services Company ILS in the presence of Ambassador Abdullah bin Nasser Al Rahbi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Cairo, with the aim of enhancing means of joint cooperation between the two sides in the fields of maritime operations and logistics services, at the Authority’s headquarters in the Guidance Building in Ismailia Governorate.

The text of MoU

The text of the memorandum of understanding for exchanging views included discussing potential frameworks for cooperation between the two sides in several fields, most notably training, ship repair and maintenance, by benefiting from the accumulated expertise of the Authority’s shipyards and companies, in addition to the advanced training expertise of the Suez Canal Academy for Maritime Training and Simulation.

The proposed means of cooperation

The proposed means of cooperation also extend to coordinating marketing efforts to attract Omani fleet ships to cross the canal, discussing ways to establish a consulting center specializing in providing technical and logistical support, and agreeing to organize joint workshops and conferences to exchange best practices and expertise and improve operational efficiency in the logistics and maritime services sectors.

SCA: A regional center for providing logistical services

For his part, Admiral Osama Rabie stressed the Suez Canal Authority’s keenness to consolidate cooperation ties with all its clients, and build bridges of partnership in various maritime and logistical fields in an effort to improve the ship transit experience, and move forward towards becoming a regional center for providing logistical services, which is the trend that prompted the Authority to add a package of new maritime services that did not exist before, such as refueling, changing marine crews, and providing marine ambulance services, in addition to developing ship maintenance and repair services and providing technical support to ships in emergency cases.

The global navigation community

The Chairman of SCA explained that the Suez Canal is always open to exchanging experiences and transferring knowledge with partners and stakeholders in the global navigation community, which enables optimal use of the Authority’s highly trained human resources and competencies, maritime assets from shipyards and companies equipped with the latest global equipment, and a specialized training academy equipped with advanced simulation technology and internationally accredited systems and programs.

Invest in the historical relations between the two countries

On the other hand  Abdullah bin Nasser Al Rahbi, Ambassador of the Sultanate of Oman to Cairo, stressed that the Suez Canal is the appropriate destination for providing various logistical and maritime services with international standards, expressing his aspiration to invest in the historical relations between the two countries to consolidate joint cooperation in the maritime field and benefit from the long-standing expertise enjoyed by the Suez Canal Authority in various fields in a way that supports the Sultanate of Oman’s orientation towards paying attention to maritime fields within its ambitious 2040 strategy.

Beginning of maritime cooperation

In another way Sheikh Majeed bin Mohammed Al Rawas, Chairman of the Board of ILS expressed his aspiration to cooperate with the Suez Canal Authority in enhancing its services, so that this agreement would be the beginning of economic and maritime cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority, and the exchange of expertise in various fields.

Signing of MoU

MoU was signed by Eng. Nashat Nasr El-Din, Director of the Movements Department at the Suez Canal Authority, and Sheikh Majeed bin Mohammed Al Rawas, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Oman ILS Company.
