As part of the Suez Canal Authority SCA‘s strategy to develop its companies and shipyards, the new expansions of the PortSaid Marine Maintenanc Copmany PMC in Aswan welcomed the floating hotel “Eugenie” to complete the necessary maintenance and repair work after it was raised to dry.
This is the first operation of its kind for the company beyond the High Dam. It follows the preparation of the company’s new site overlooking Lake Nasser to carry out periodic overhauls of floating hotels and tourist boats operating in the Abu Simbel-Aswan area, which are unable to cross the High Dam
The preparation of the new site required preparing and leveling the rocky ground to accommodate and lift river units and floats up to 4,000 tons. This was in addition to installing crane bases, providing equipment, towing cables, and floats. Furthermore, technical studies were conducted to calculate the slide and the impact of stresses on the ship’s hull, resulting in the successful lifting of the ship with the floats.

Current contracts include maintenance and repair work for the floating hotel “Eugenie,” followed by the lifting of the floating hotel “Qasr Ibrim.” The company has received numerous inquiries and requests for repairs and maintenance, leveraging its accumulated experience in the marine and river sectors.
Advance the river transport system
Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of SCA, emphasized the Authority’s commitment to actively supporting the state’s efforts to advance the river transport system by enhancing industry requirements through the Authority’s companies and shipyards located in Upper Egypt, including the Canal Nile Shipyard Company in Armant and PMC Company branches in Aswan.
The expansion of PMC in Aswan
Rabie explained that the expansion of PMC in Aswan and its presence behind the High Dam represent a significant addition to meeting the needs of river vessels in this important tourist area and serving the development goals of Toshka and Lake Nasser.
Construction activities
Additionally, the company undertakes maintenance, repair, and construction activities for hotels and floating river units, as well as the construction of ferries necessary for transporting people and goods.

Joint coordination with SCA
On the other hand, Mr. Mustafa El Gendy, owner of the Eugenie floating hotel and Honorary Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament, praised the company’s efforts to expand its operations and open up foreign markets.
He expressed his aspiration for joint coordination between the Suez Canal Authority and its affiliated companies with members of the Pan-African Parliament to market and provide construction and repair services for river and marine vessels in several African countries in the coming period
Eugenie : The first ship to sail Lake Nasser
It is noteworthy that the Eugenie was proudly named to evoke an historic event in Egypt’s recent past: the grand opening of the Suez Canal in 1869, attended by the crown heads of Europe including the Empress Eugenie of France. The completion of the Suez Canal marked Egypt’s passage into modernity, and a new era of international trade and interaction.
Likewise the Eugenie, the first ship to sail Lake Nasser, launched a new era of tourism, offering travelers fresh vistas of Egypt’s natural beauty and archeological treasures. Lake Nasser extended the boundaries of Egypt’s touristic possibilities, while the Eugenie reminds us of this ancient country’s endless capacity for renewal.
