The DFAS line between Trieste and Egypt set sail on its first voyage

The Olympos Seaways ship has arrived at the port of Damietta, inaugurating the long-awaited sea highway between the two shores of the Mediterranean

The new line for the transport of goods operated by the Danish shipping company DFDS between the port of Trieste and Egypt began with the first voyage carried out by the RO_RO ship Olympos Seaways according to Shipping Italy

After setting sail from the Julian port on November 20th, the ship with 3,214 linear meters of garage (capacity 200 trailers) crossed the Mediterranean Sea from north to south and then landed for the first time in the port of Damietta.

After having unloaded the first semi-trailers, the ship will set sail from Egypt in the next few days for the first ‘official’ voyage with on board the cargo destined for Central and Northern Europe, as well as Italy obviously.

The connection will initially have a weekly frequency and will become bi-weekly, according to estimates, from the middle of next year; the transit time of the sea route is 68 hours.

The Olympos Seaways ship will in fact be able to travel at a maximum speed of 21.5 knots and in the garage it will be able to take on board semi-trailers, trucks, containers up to 45 feet, tank containers, swap bodies, project cargo and dangerous goods (excluding Imo 1 classes , 6.2 and 7).

Through the port of Trieste, the Danish group DFDS and other operators are able to guarantee shippers and receivers a large intermodal network to and from Central and Eastern Europe with around 200 trains per week.

 It is noteworthy that  OLYMPOS SEAWAYS (IMO: 9242390) is a Ro-Ro Cargo and is sailing under the flag of Turkey. Her length overall (LOA) is 193 meters and her width is 26.04 meters.
