The XIII National Report on the Economy of the Sea 2025, edited by the National Observatory on the Economy of the Sea Ossermare and the Tagliacarne Study Center – Unioncamere, was presented at MIMIT at the opening of the Blue Forum 2025.
With 232,841 businesses and 1,089,710 employees, the maritime economy in Italy generates direct added value of €76.6 billion. This figure, when considering the value generated in the rest of the economy, reaches €216.7 billion, equal to 11.3% of the national GDP. It is a sector experiencing strong growth in every aspect.
Direct added value is growing by 15.9%, more than double the Italian average growth rate of 6.6%. The maritime economy’s share of overall added value has increased by more than 1 percentage point compared to the 12th Report of 2024. This year’s multiplier remains stable at 1.8
That is, for every euro spent in sectors directly related to the maritime sector, another 1.8 are generated in the rest of the economy. The number of employees is growing, with a 7.7% increase in employment, more than four times the national average of 1.9%. In the two-year period 2022-2024, the number of businesses will grow, with a +2%, in contrast to the national economy which stands at -2.4%.
This is what emerged from the XIII National Report on the Marine Economy by the National Observatory on the Marine Economy Ossermare, the Tagliacarne Study Center – Unioncamere, Informare, the Frosinone Latina Chamber of Commerce, and the Blue Forum Italia Network, presented on July 9 in Rome at the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, at the opening of the 4th National Summit on the Marine Economy Blue Forum.
