The trip is the first crossing since the tanker was attacked in the Red Sea last July
Rabie: “The return of the tanker to cross the Suez Canal is a strong message of reassurance about the positive developments to begin the return of stability to the Red Sea region”
The Suez Canal witnessed the transit of the oil tanker CHRYSALIS within the southern convoy on its journey coming from the port of Seka in India, and heading to the port of Sidi Kerir in Alexandria.
The trip is the first crossing of the Liberian-flagged tanker CHRYSALIS through the canal since the tanker was attacked in the Red Sea region last July. The ship is 249 meters long, 44 meters wide, and its total capacity is 61,341 tons.
Strong message of reassurance
For his part, Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of SCA stressed that the return of the tanker to transit through the Suez Canal carries a strong message of reassurance regarding the positive developments witnessed in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab region, which push towards the beginning of the return of stability to the region and freedom of maritime navigation.
The Chairman of SCA explained that the return of ships to transit through the Suez Canal is a reality imposed by the lack of a sustainable alternative in light of the high costs of maritime transport via the Cape of Good Hope route and the lack of necessary navigation services for ships, in addition to the environmental risks from the high rate of carbon emissions resulting from increased fuel consumption.
Admiral Rabie stressed that the Suez Canal will remain the first choice for major shipping lines that are awaiting stability in the Red Sea region to return to transit through the canal again.
New navigational maps
On the other hand Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, announced the issuance of new navigational maps for the Canal after adding updates related to the Southern Sector Development Project, and their approval by the Marine Survey Division of the Egyptian Naval Forces, and the British Admiralty, which is responsible for issuing electronic maps and navigational data for Egyptian ports and the Suez Canal.
It is noteworthy that the current position of CHRYSALIS is at Red Sea reported 3 hours ago by AIS. The vessel is sailing at a speed of 9.4 knots. The vessel CHRYSALIS (IMO 9437684, MMSI 636017134) is a Crude Oil Tanker built in 2010 (15 years old) .according to Vessel Finder
