The 27.3-metre Maiora motor yacht Dominic has been destroyed in a fire off the island of Isla Mujeres in Quintana Roo, Mexico.

Tragic imagery shows Dominic’s three decks entirely engulfed in flames as personnel from the Naval Search, Rescue and Maritime Surveillance Station attempt to battle the blaze.
Ultramar ferry
Arriving first at the scene of the incident was a passing Ultramar ferry, which attempted to extinguish the flames to no avail, until the Isla Mujeres emergency services and Civil Protection rushed to the burning yacht via a navy boat.
Cause of the fire
According to local reports, the fire began in the late evening (26 July) with six guests and two crew on board at the time. The cause of the fire is undetermined, though it is said to have started from the lower deck.

The incident was brought under control, with no injuries, as there were no passengers on board the vessel,” the Navy stated in a press release.

It is note worthy “Thanks to the quick intervention of the Secretary of the Navy (SEMAR), the Ultramar company, APIQROO, staff of the Isla Mujeres municipality and the solidarity of the citizens, all those involved were evacuated without suffering injuries,” read a statement from the State Coordination of Civil Protection for Quintana Roo.“
Maiora 27 series
Delivered in 2008 by her Italian shipyard as part of the Maiora 27 series, the yacht Dominic features exterior design by Roberto Del Re and interior design created in-house by Maiora.
Accommodation-wise, she was able to host as many as eight guests across her four stateroom layout.
Speed of 28 knots
Regarding her performance, Dominic was powered by twin Caterpillar engines capable of reaching a cruising speed of 24 knots and a top speed of 28 knots.
