The maritime authority has announced that in recent hours, following a long inspection carried out on board Bella Nadia, a deputies cargo ship of Guinea-Bissau moored in the port of Savona, Shipping Italy reported
The PSC inspectors, together with personnel of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF), have detected several problems related to the living and working conditions on board as well as serious non-compliance, under the international conventions
Ship’s propulsion system
Particular critical issues have emerged in the objective evidence of the non-responsibility of the salary, for as many as 5 months, to some members of the crew, in the malfunction of some fundamental equipment of the ship’s propulsion system, in the lack of lighting systems in general as well as those provided for in the sea portions where, in case of emergency, the rescue rafts would be launched for the crew as well as the efficiency and the readiness of the equipment.

The Ship currently moored in the port of Savona, will therefore be able to resume navigation only to eliminate the deficiencies found and after the carrying out of new investigations by the State of Flag and the Register of Classification of the same unit, and finally of the inspectors of the Psc nucleus of the Port Authority – Coast Guard of Savona.

The inspection carried out on the cargo ship is in addition to the numerous inspections carried out during the year 2024 by the Psc core of the Port Authority – Coast Guard of Savona to ensure compliance with Italian and international regulations on navigation safety and which have led to the need, in the whole year, to proceed with the administrative detention of four merchant ships.
