The Alexandria Port Authority today received the WEN JING KOU (IMO 9997555, MMSI 636022968 - sailing under the flag of Liberia ), one of the world's largest LNG-powered RO -RO vessels. This reflects the port's technical and operational readiness to receive the latest environmentally friendly marine vessels.
The Alexandria Port Authority's leadership, headed by the Rear Admiral and Chairman of the Board, received the vessel. It docked at berth number 9, which specialises in Ro-Ro cargo handling and is one of the port's multiple berths. The berthing and securing operations were carried out according to the highest technical and navigational standards under the direct supervision of the port's traffic and maritime services leadership. The Authority's pilots and pilot tugboats participated in the operation to ensure the safety of the vessel and crew and the efficiency of the process.
Boasting advanced operational capabilities, the 200-metre-long WEN JING KOU has a draft exceeding 9 metres. Classed as a large PCTC (Pure Car and Truck Carrier) vessel, it has a capacity of up to 9,000 vehicles and operates using a dual propulsion system powered by liquefied natural gas. This helps to reduce carbon emissions and ensure compliance with international environmental standards issued by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), supporting the Egyptian government's efforts to promote green maritime transport and enhance environmental sustainability in its ports.

The Port Authority confirmed that the successful reception of this modern vessel demonstrates the efficiency of Alexandria Port's infrastructure and the development of its pilotage, towing and berthing systems. It also shows that the port's berths are ready to accommodate large vessels, including specialised Ro-Ro berths. This further establishes the port's position as a pivotal hub for international trade in the Mediterranean.
This event is part of the Authority's strategy to maximise the port's competitiveness, attract global shipping lines and enhance its ability to handle the latest generations of specialised vessels. This will support the national economy and improve supply chain efficiency.
Alexandria Port is Egypt's largest maritime hub, handling approximately 55% to 80% of the country's foreign trade. Located on the Mediterranean Sea, it consists of two main harbors—the Eastern (restricted) and Western (commercial)—serving as a crucial economic gateway, a major cruise terminal, and a handling center for containers, bulk cargo, and passengers.
