The ship resumes its journey through the canal, with navigation proceeding normally

 A total of 50 ships passed through the canal in both directions today, with a combined net tonnage of 2.2 million tonnes.

Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, ( SCA ) announced that the Authority’s marine rescue tugs had successfully dealt with the navigation emergency involving the bulk carrier XIN TAIN YUAN, (IMO 9219434, MMSI 352986198) which had run aground due to a technical malfunction in the ship’s rudder while crossing the canal as part of the northbound convoy en route from Denmark to Singapore. The ship, which sails under the Panamanian flag, measures 225 metres in length, 32.2 metres in width and has a tonnage of 41,000 tons.

The Chairman of SCA revealed that the main navigation control centre received Alert of the ship running aground at kilometre 87 of the canal. This prompted the immediate dispatch of four tugboats belonging to the authority to carry out the necessary pulling work to right the tanker and refloat it.

The Authority's tugboats dealt with the situation successfully.

Rabie indicated that the Authority's tugboats successfully dealt with the emergency situation that occurred on Thursday afternoon, ending it at exactly 4:00 PM after towing the ship, righting it and accompanying it as part of the navigational security work during its journey to the Great Lakes region, following the ship's crew successfully repairing the technical malfunction.

The flotation process was carried out efficiently.

The Chairman of SCA pointed out that the flotation process was carried out efficiently by allocating tugboats according to their pulling force. This was based on precise calculations by the Crisis Management Committee, in cooperation with the relevant departments: the Movements Department, the Shipyards Department and the Marine Rescue Team. This ensured the safety of the ship and its successful exit.

Admiral Rabie praised the participation of the tugboat "Azm 2", one of the newest tugboats in the Suez Canal Authority's fleet with a pulling power of 90 tons, for the first time in rescue operations, and the outstanding performance it performed in towing and rescue operations.

A message of reassurance, 

 In a message of reassurance, Rabie emphasized that navigation through the canal from the south would not be affected. He also announced that the northbound convoy was scheduled to resume navigation once the ship had reached the Great Lakes region. There, the marine rescue team would carry out the necessary inspections to ensure the safety of the ship's hull. The ship would only resume its voyage once its technical safety had been confirmed.

The Suez Canal's readiness

Rabie reaffirmed the Suez Canal's readiness to deal with emergency navigational situations, in accordance with crisis management requirements and the special procedures required for each case. These procedures necessitate proper, accurate and immediate handling in order to resolve the problem and maintain regular navigation through the canal.

He stated that the SCA possesses the human competencies and technical capabilities required to deal with difficult situations and manage navigation emergencies efficiently and effectively.
