Damietta Port has recorded high cargo handling volumes over the last 24 hours, supported by active rail-to-sea transit for export shipments. In line with the Damietta Container & Cargo Handling Company’s (DCHC) commitment to advancing multimodal transport and improving the efficiency of logistics services, the company handled 150 TEUs of export phosphate containers transported by rail on behalf of Ocean Network Express (ONE). The shipment arrived in three batches via three trains, each with a capacity of 50 TEUs.
The containers were efficiently handled and stored in the export container yard. They are scheduled to be loaded and shipped to Shiko Port, China, aboard the vessel YM Wellness. This is due to berth at Damietta Container & Cargo Handling Company on 29 June 2026. Rear Admiral Dr Rafik Galal, the company's chairman, noted that this movement is part of the port's ongoing coordination of rail and maritime operations
The Egyptian government's strategy to increase reliance on rail freight transportation is being supported by this operation. This will reduce pressure on the road network, lower carbon emissions, generate economic savings, enhance supply chain efficiency, and promote sustainable transport solutions. Admiral Dr Rafik Galal, the managing director and chief executive officer of the Damietta Container & Cargo Handling Company (DCHC) , said that the operation demonstrates the successful integration of different transport modes and the effective connection of Egyptian ports to the national railway network. He stated that this backs the state's goal of growing the part played by railways in the transport of goods and achieving a stronger link with the national transport network.
