Nor-Shipping is hunting for innovations with the potential to transform maritime challenges into opportunities, delivering commercial, operational and environmental advantages for the NEXT years ahead.
Nor-Shipping 2027, taking place in Oslo and Lillestrøm from 7-11 June, has today announced the launch of its latest Ocean Solutions Award. Conceived to showcase breakthrough ideas, products and concepts that are either currently available or near commercialisation, the award is open to all Nor-Shipping exhibitors and speakers in official conferences and seminars.
The winner will be announced in front of an audience of international decision makers at Nor-Shipping’s Ocean Leadership Conference on 8 June 2027.

“Shipping has no shortage of challenges, but it also has the talent, expertise and ambition to address them head-on, forging new commercial opportunities,” comments Sidsel Norvik, Director, Nor-Shipping. “The task is to create awareness of that potential, of fresh ways of working, and connect it with businesses that can benefit. New solutions only fulfil their promise when they reach the people who need them.
“The Ocean Solutions Award helps make that connection. We want to give our innovative exhibitors and participants a powerful platform to demonstrate the value they can deliver, capturing the attention of an industry focused on future development.”
Seen in this context, the award, which debuted in 2021, fits perfectly with the main Nor-Shipping 2027 theme of NEXT: navigating uncertainty, evolving technologies and business models, executing on ambition, and transforming the industry.
An expert jury led by chairman Malcolm Latarche will assess entries based on the following criteria: the originality of the service, design, concept or equipment; its impact on ocean sustainability, logistics, or ship operation; how it addresses current or anticipated industry challenges; expected benefit for the industry generally, and to users/customers specifically; and how it applies best practices or ideas from other industries, or develops practices that other industries could benefit from.

The eventual winner will follow in the footsteps of bound4blue, which won in 2025 for its pioneering eSAIL® suction sails, and 2023’s winner AlfaWall Oceanbird, developer of a folding wing sail system. Both companies put wind propulsion in the spotlight, demonstrating how an established energy source can support shipping’s evolving needs, while building their own market positioning.
“For exhibitors, this is an opportunity to bring their innovation into sharper focus,” Norvik continues. “The award gives the wider industry a reason to look closely at what they have developed and why it matters.
“If you have a solution ready to help the industry move forward, this is your chance to share it. We can’t wait to see the ideas and ingenuity competing for recognition in 2027.”
Notably, Nor-Shipping brings the global industry together in Norway every two years. Alongside the main exhibition, a unique programme of knowledge sharing, networking and socialising ensures ‘something for everyone’ across the entire maritime and ocean industry value chain.
Nor-Shipping has launched its 2027 Next Generation Ship Award, turning the spotlight on projects with the potential to steer shipping towards more sustainable, profitable and efficient horizons.
