Five bags containing 200 blocks of pure cocaine hidden in some containers containing canned tuna were identified in recent days at the port of Genoa by officials of the Anti-Fraud Unit of the Genoa Customs Office 1 and by the financial police of the Provincial Command of Genoa If placed on the market, would have yielded gains worth between 40 and the 50 million euros.
The containers, intercepted
The containers, intercepted on a motor vessel coming from the port of Guayaquil in Ecuador, are blocked at the Genoa maritime port. The inspection of one of these has allowed the discovery of the drug illegally introduced into the territory of the State, for a total weight of approximately 240 kg. The seized goods, intended to supply the main Italian drug dealing centers, if placed on the market, would have generated profits for a value of between 40 and 50 million euros once sold at retail
The note from the Customs Agency
The seizure, as reported in the note from the Customs Agency, is the result of a complex and constant analysis of numerous risk indices developed thanks to the data and information contained in the databases used by both Administrations, which is aimed at identifying containers suspected of being used by criminal organizations for their illicit activities.
All the elements that emerged were reported to the Public Prosecutor’s Office of Genoa for the initiatives of competence and the validation of the seizure of the narcotic substance.
International drug trafficking
“The fight against international drug trafficking is aimed at protecting the weakest segments of the population who are often exposed to the harmful effects generated by this criminal phenomenon. The operation is part of a targeted intensification of controls aimed at combating drug trafficking within the Port of Genoa Cocaine Seized” concludes the note.
