Admiral General Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, inspected the construction work of the new tugs that are being built for the Suez Canal Authority at the Egypt Locomotive Factory at the South Red Sea Shipyard in the city of Safaga, accompanied by Mr. Mostafa El-Dejishi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the South Red Sea Arsinal Company, and a number of leaders of the Authority and the company. This is to follow up on the progress of work and learn about developments in the process of building the production line of marine tugs of the “Rastar 3200-W” model with a pulling force of 90 tons.
The inspection tour included the ongoing work in the three main sectors of the Egypt Tug Building Factory, which are the cutting sector, the forming sector, and the construction sector, which are equipped with the latest technology in the world in the field of building various marine units.
The Chairman of the Authority was also briefed on the latest developments in the work of building new tugs at the Misr Locomotive Factory, which number 10 marine tugs bearing the name “Azm”, as actual work began to build 6 tugs in parallel at the factory in Safaga, and work is scheduled to begin to build 4 tugs in cooperation with the Port Said Marine Shipyard of the Authority.
The length of each locomotive is 32 meters, its width is 13.5 meters, its height is 6 meters, and its speed is 12 knots. The new locomotives are distinguished by their unique design in cooperation with the Robert Allan International Design Office, the largest international design office in the field of building locomotives, a design that provides them with multiple advantages that guarantee them Achieving the highest degree of flexibility during movement and sailing maneuvers and achieving a large tensile strength of 90 tons.
Admiral General Rabie confirmed that the Suez Canal has taken serious and effective steps towards implementing the directives of the political leadership to localize maritime industries and encourage partnership with the private sector within the national strategy that aims to restore leadership to national arsenals and enter strongly into the field of labor-intensive heavy industries, which contributes towards achieving many development goals by meeting needs. local and providing job opportunities for youth, as well as supporting the national economy by opening new markets for foreign export.
The Chairman of the Authority explained that the new marine tugs will contribute to supporting the efforts to develop and modernize the Authority’s fleet of multi-tasking auxiliary marine tugs that are used in the work of accompanying ships crossing the canal, navigational insurance work, and dealing with emergency situations.
