The Turkish newspaper Yeni Akit revealed that the Libyan Coast Guard detained the dry cargo ship PANDO 1, owned by an Emirati company and operated by a Turkish company, while it was sailing off the coast of the city of Khoms, after completing its unloading missions in the ports of Benghazi and Tripoli.
According to the website, the ship has a capacity of 2,620 tons and is carrying asphalt plant equipment and 15 empty LPG tanks. It departed the port of Istanbul on June 12 and successfully unloaded before continuing its journey to the Turkish port of Iskenderun.
During its journey, the ship approached the Libyan coast to gain internet coverage and send voyage documents, before receiving a radio call from the Libyan Coast Guard. Coast Guard personnel boarded the ship at dawn last Saturday. Since then, contact with its crew of eight Azerbaijani sailors has been lost, according to the website.
The website reported that the ship remains detained in the anchorage area of the Khoms port, while the Turkish operating company quickly notified the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which has begun to take action to follow up on the case.

The current position of PANDO 1 is at East Mediterranean reported 2 min ago by AIS. The vessel is en route to ISK TR, and expected to arrive there on Jul 17, 20:00. The vessel PANDO 1 (IMO 8509002, MMSI 677046000) is a General Cargo Ship built in 1986 (39 years old) and currently sailing under the flag of Tanzania.
