For the first time, Lloyd's List has selected Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, among its list of the 100 most influential figures in the global maritime transport sector.*The Suez Canal Authority Chairman was ranked 75th on the list of the world's best in the maritime transport sector.
The Suez Canal Authority Chairman's selection, ranking 75th on the list in the global maritime transport sector, comes in recognition of his efforts in launching an intensive promotional campaign to attract shipping lines to resume transiting the Red Sea and to restore confidence in one of the most important arteries of global trade. This year's Lloyd's List list includes 100 individuals from various nationalities, representing key players and executives from leading international maritime organizations that contribute to supporting the maritime transport sector.
According to the report published on the Lloyd's List platform, the Suez Canal Authority's efforts reflect the Egyptian government's desire for a swift return of shipping traffic after more than two years of absence due to the Red Sea crisis, which negatively impacted Suez Canal revenues.
The platform's report highlighted the Suez Canal Authority's proactive efforts to accelerate the return of container ships by offering incentives to ship owners. The Authority issued a 15% incentive for container ships with a "Suez Canal Net Tonnage" of 130,000 or more – roughly equivalent to container ships with a capacity exceeding 10,000 TEUs – valid until December 31st
The report also mentioned the Suez Canal Authority SCA's call for marine insurance companies to reduce insurance premiums for Red Sea voyages, hoping to alleviate the financial burden on ship owners as part of these efforts.
The Lloyd's List report concluded by emphasizing confidence that the Rabie team and its staff would continue to exert maximum effort to ensure the swift return of maritime traffic through the Suez Canal to normal levels.
