Almi Marine Management has made a new investment in its fleet, signing a contract for the construction of two 64,000 dwt Ultramax bulk carriers with NACKS Shipyard, with scheduled delivery in the second quarter of 2029. The equipment also includes the ability to transport two 25-ton coil loads, a CO₂ protection system for the cargo holds and a series of additional features that enhance the efficiency and attractiveness of the ships to charterers.
Greek Owner and Managing director Christos Hadjigeorgiou confirmed that Almi Marine has ordered two 64,000-dwt Ultramax vessels at Nantong Cosco KHI Ship Engineering (NACKS), with delivery scheduled for the second quarter of 2029.Hadjigeorgiou said the company maintains a strong relationship with both NACKS and Dalian Cosco KHI Ship Engineering (DACKS) after receiving previous vessels on time and to satisfaction
He said the newly ordered ships represent the next generation of the yard’s Ultramax design and confirmed Almi Marine will become the first owner to take delivery of the upgraded series. Hadjigeorgiou said the vessels will deliver around 10% improved fuel economy compared with the previous generation. He described the design as “world-class” and said it will meet EEDI Phase IV requirements once they become mandatory.Hadjigeorgiou said the company viewed the order as a financially attractive opportunity, particularly as newbuilding prices could face upward pressure.
It is noteworthy that Almi Marine plans to use the two new Ultramaxes to replace older Supramax ships in its fleet. The company has already agreed to sell its oldest vessel, the 2008-built 55,679-dwt Anas
Meanwhile Almi Marine took delivery of three Ultramax bulk carriers from DACKS in 2024, following an order placed in 2022. Hadjigeorgiou said the company moved early at the time, committing to newbuild contracts during a period when dry bulk ordering activity remained subdued.
Almi Marine Management S.A. is a Greece-based, first-class ship management company founded in 1992, specializing in the technical and commercial operation of modern Supramax and Ultramax dry bulk carriers. The firm focuses on safe, efficient, and high-quality vessel management, currently overseeing a fleet of 7 vessels
