Francisco Pérez Mackenna resigned from the Supervisory Board as a representative of CSAV's shareholders on February 1, 2026, at his own request. 

The Supervisory Board of Hapag-Lloyd AG has elected Karl Gernandt as Chairman of the Supervisory Board with immediate effect. He succeeds Michael Behrendt, who is currently unable to perform the duties of Chairman due to health reasons. Michael Behrendt will remain an ordinary member of the Supervisory Board.

The extraordinary contributions of Michael Behrendt

This decision does not in any way diminish the extraordinary contributions of Michael Behrendt. All members of the Supervisory Board expressly wish for his return as Chairman following his full recovery. The Supervisory Board will deliberate on this matter at the appropriate time.

Upon assuming the Chairmanship of the Supervisory Board, Karl Gernandt handed over his mandate as Chairman of the Audit and Financial Committee to Oscar Eduardo Hasbún Martínez, who has been a member of the Supervisory Board of Hapag-Lloyd AG since 2014.

Mackenna stepped down from the Supervisory Board

Furthermore, Francisco Pérez Mackenna stepped down from the Supervisory Board as a representative of CSAV’s shareholders at his own request, effective February 1, 2026. He is succeeded by Macario Valdés Raczynski since February 13, 2026, who was appointed as a new member of the Supervisory Board by the Local Court of Hamburg.

Karl Gernandt's life journey

After earning his Master of Business Administration from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, Karl Gernandt worked for Deutsche Bank AG from 1988 to 1996. He held positions in corporate and retail banking in Germany, Asia, and the United States during his time there. From 1997 to 1999, he made his mark at the Financial Institutions Group of A.T. Kearney GmbH. In 1999, he moved to Holcim (Deutschland) AG as CFO. In 2000, he was appointed CEO and, simultaneously, a member of the European Board of Holcim Ltd. in Switzerland. 

In 2007, he became the CEO of Holcim Western Europe in Brussels. On October 1, 2008, he was nominated CEO. Since May 2016, he has been Executive Chairman, and since April 2024, he has been Chairman of the Board of Directors of Kuehne Holding AG in Schindellegi (Feusisberg). He was chairman of the supervisory board of Kuehne Logistics University GmbH (KLU) in Hamburg until November 2022. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Kuehne Foundation.
