Vassilis Kikilias, the Greek Minister of Maritime Affairs, stated that Athens would file a "strong complaint" with the responsible country, though he did not specify who the complaint would be directed towards. Kikilias later identified Ukraine as carrying out frequent attacks in the Black Sea.
Kikilias strongly opposed the targeting of Greek-flagged vessels, those carrying Greek sailors, and those with Greek shipping interests. labeling it as unacceptable and posing a significant safety risk. This statement was made during an interview with state-run ERT television. He speculated that the attack could be linked to the U.S.'s temporary easing of some sanctions on Russian oil shipments, a move influenced by the instability stemming from the ongoing conflict with Iran .The war has also impacted Greece’s substantial shipping industry, leaving dozens of Greek-flagged or Greek-owned vessels stranded in the Persian Gulf.
