Dutch port operator APM Terminals will invest $550 million. This is to expand Peru's Callao Port. The expansion will start in January. This information was revealed on Wednesday. Fernando Fauche revealed it. He is the chief commercial officer for the company's Peru unit. During an event celebrating the launch of direct arrivals from Asia to the facility on Peru's central coast, Fauche told journalists that the two-year project aims to increase the terminal's capacity to 24,000 containers.

An increase in annual container capacity to 1.75 million containers

An increase in annual container capacity to 1.75 million containers from 1.3 million and a lift in general cargo capacity to 18 million tonnes from 13.5 million tonnes is being delivered by the modernisation. The work is being carried out in two phases while terminal operations continue.  Scheduled to run from 2026 to 2028, the first phase of the project will cover container infrastructure. This will include a new Muelle 5C, which will be capable of handling ULCVs. It will also include container-handling equipment and a new general cargo access gate. The second phase, scheduled for 2028–2030, will focus on increasing general cargo capacity.

Meanwhile, the design-build contract for the Muelle Norte expansion, worth more than €100m ($114m), was secured by Eiffage Génie Civil Marine, working in consortium with Jan De Nul. The project will demolish docks 4 and 5C and construct a new 441-metre-long, 44-metre-wide Muelle 5C. The contract is for 21 months, including a five-month study phase, and the terminal will remain operational during the works. The project is part of the staged redesign of the Terminal Norte Multipropósito under APM Terminals Callao's concession with the Peruvian state.
