Giuseppe Melucci will lead Raccomar Taranto for a two-year term from 2026 to 2028. At the shareholders' meeting, the shareholders unanimously renewed the outgoing shipping agent's presidency, ensuring continuity of management and representation during one of the most challenging periods for the port and the local shipping industry.
The volume of containers handled at the Port of Taranto decreased during the first half of 2026, primarily due to a general slowdown in traffic and ongoing economic and infrastructural challenges in the area. This situation underscores the crucial role of shipping agencies and freight forwarders in maintaining the port's operational capacity.
"The objective is to persevere with even greater resolve, collaborating closely with the port community to consistently support local enterprises and pragmatically address the sector's critical issues and vulnerabilities," Melucci remarked at the election event, emphasising the importance of intensifying dialogue with the Ionian Sea Port System Authority and local institutions to accelerate revitalisation initiatives.
The Taranto Board of Directors has also been reconfirmed, with Antonio Mantua (CEO of Mantua & De Iacovo Shipping, President of the Maritime, Port and Transport Section of Confindustria Taranto, and former Raccomar Puglia Vice President) and Arcangelo Santamato (Director of Barion Agency and member of the Adsp Local Advisory Commission) remaining as members.
The regional association structure now reflects the territorial cohesion approach, with Vincenzo Prencipe confirmed as president of Raccomar Puglia and Taranto mediator and agent Luca Piliego remaining at the helm of the Youth Group.
