LONDON — During an exceptional session of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council in London Saudi Arabia underscored the importance of protecting maritime routes, ensuring freedom of navigation, and maintaining stability in global energy markets and supply chains.
The KSA's permanent representative to the IMO, Eng.Kamal Al-Junaidi, made it clear that Saudi Arabia is dedicated to international maritime safety frameworks. This commitment extends to the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) Convention, which includes navigational warnings, search and rescue operations, vessel guidance, and risk avoidance
He emphasized that the Kingdom is a responsible partner that is committed to ensuring maritime safety, protecting lives, and supporting an international system based on rules and cooperation

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's (KSA) permanent representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO) presided over the 52nd session of the International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO) Advisory Committee. This is the second time serving in this role, marking a milestone as he is the first Saudi and Arabic chair of the committee.
This session brought together an impressive 220 participants in hybrid mode and was presided over by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's (KSA) permanent representative to the International Maritime Organization (IMO). The participants represented 60 countries, 44 of which are committee members. The remaining countries attended as observers. This high level of engagement reflects the importance of the committee's work and the trust placed in its leadership.
Saudi Arabia also highlighted its ongoing efforts to improve maritime security by strengthening monitoring and information sharing and increasing readiness to respond to potential threats. The Kingdom has been working to make sure global trade moves smoothly by keeping its maritime corridors safe and stable. It has been doing this by taking advantage of its location and its reputation in the region and around the world.

The General Transport Authority of Saudi Arabia is the Kingdom's representative on the IMO Council. This entity is committed to upholding international obligations and contributing to global maritime decision-making. This commitment is part of a broader commitment to supporting international initiatives.
Notably, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) will hold an extraordinary session of its council from March 18 to 19, 2026, at its headquarters in London, United Kingdom. The session will address the impacts on shipping and seafarers of the situation in the Arabian Sea, the Sea of Oman, and the Gulf region, with a particular focus on the Strait of Hormuz.
