The Italian envoy for the IMEC project emphasized that "navigational security in the Red Sea and Bab el-Mandeb is a crucial requirement for the international maritime community.

Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority  ( SCA ) , received Mr. Francesco Talo, the Italian envoy for the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) project, to discuss avenues for joint cooperation. The meeting was also attended by Admiral Ashraf Atwa, Vice Chairman of the Authority, several members of the Authority's Board of Directors, and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the Authority's headquarters in the Guidance Building in Ismailia Governorate.

Suez Canal and its development projects.

This meeting took place on the sidelines of Mr. Talo's official visit to Cairo, and within the framework of the fruitful cooperation and ongoing coordination between the Suez Canal Authority and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The visit aimed to provide Mr. Talo with a firsthand look at the Suez Canal and its development projects.

Suez Canal will remain a cornerstone of global trade

Admiral Rabie At the outset of the meeting,   He affirmed that the Suez Canal will remain a cornerstone of global trade, being the shortest, fastest, and safest waterway connecting East and West. Rabie explained that the Suez Canal Authority  (SCA )  has successfully implemented massive development projects to maintain its competitiveness and leading position in the international maritime community. The most prominent of these is the Southern Sector Development Project, which has successfully increased navigational safety by 28% and expanded the canal's dual-lane areas, thus enhancing its flexibility in handling potential emergencies.

Improved the level of navigational and maritime services 

 Rabie emphasized that the Suez Canal Authority has continuously developed, modernized, and improved the level of navigational and maritime services provided to its clients. This is achieved through the introduction of new navigational services tailored to the needs of vessels transiting the canal under normal conditions and in emergencies, such as ship maintenance and repair, marine ambulance services, maritime rescue, crew changes, and more.

Localizing the marine vessel manufacturing industry.

The Chairman of the SCA added that the Authority has made significant strides in developing and modernizing its fleet of various marine units and in localizing the marine vessel manufacturing industry. These efforts culminated in the commencement of exports, with the Suez Canal Modern Boats Company contracting to sell two 90-ton bollard pull tugboats to the Italian Neri Group.

Improvement in navigation indicators

He also noted the improvement in navigation indicators in the Canal as calm returns to the region. Navigation statistics for October showed an increase in both the tonnage of transiting vessels and revenues, with net tonnage rising by 16.3% and revenues by 17.5% compared to October of the previous year.

He emphasized that the security of navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab el-Mandeb Strait is a crucial requirement for the international maritime community, necessitating concerted efforts to ensure the region's return to its previous state of stability. The Italian envoy for the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) project noted the importance of resuming navigation through the Suez Canal, a vital artery for European trade passing between the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea to the Mediterranean.

The Italian envoy for the IMEC project emphasized the importance of supporting infrastructure projects on a sound basis by incorporating modern technology to address security challenges and cybersecurity issues. The Italian envoy expressed his aspiration to strengthen joint cooperation with the Suez Canal Authority ( SCA ) within the framework of efforts to include Egypt among the countries through which the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor passes, thereby enabling strategic integration between the two sides and serving their common interests.
