A statement from d’Amico International Shipping, a subsidiary of d’Amico Società di Navigazione and listed on the Milan Stock Exchange, which in turn owns the Irish-registered operating subsidiary d’Amico Tankers, announced that the latter “has signed a construction contract with Jiangsu New Yangzi Shipbuilding, China, for the purchase of two new 50,000-ton ‘Medium Range 2’ product tankers at a price of $45.4 million each.”
These two new vessels are scheduled for delivery to d’Amico Tankers in March and June 2029 respectively. d’Amico Tankers also has an option, exercisable within two months of signing the construction contract, to order two additional vessels of the same type As of today, Dis' fleet comprises 29 double-hull product tankers (MR, Handysize and LR1, of which 27 owned vessels and 2 bareboat chartered-in), with an average age of 9.6 years
Carlos Balestra di Mottola, CEO of d’Amico International Shipping, said: “Following the order for two new MR1 vessels placed at the end of December 2025, we are now pleased to announce the order for two additional MR2 eco-design product tankers from a renowned shipyard, where we already have four LR1 vessels under construction. These new MR2s will be among the most efficient in their class, consuming approximately 4.0 tons of fuel oil per day (approximately 17%) less at their designed draft and at normal continuous main engine power output than our already efficient MR2 eco-design vessels currently in service
These performances are made possible by improvements to both the hull shape and the main engine efficiency. These MR2 vessels ordered by YZJ will also be methanol-ready, certified for the use of biofuels up to B100, and equipped with cyber-resilient solutions. This new investment, amounting to approximately $90.8 million, brings DIS's overall order book to eight new vessels (four LR1s, two MR1s, and two MR2s), for a total investment in newbuildings of approximately $412.6 million. This investment plan, together with the gradual divestment of the fleet's older vessels, is fully aligned with our strategy to operate a modern and fuel-efficient fleet, with the aim of reducing our environmental impact, while also meeting the evolving and increasingly stringent requirements of charterers and regulatory authorities
d’Amico International Shipping S.A. (DIS) is a prominent, Milan-listed subsidiary of the d'Amico Group specializing in the modern, "Eco-design" product tanker market. It transports refined petroleum products, chemicals, and vegetable oils, managing a high-tech fleet of roughly 30–35 vessels with a strong focus on environmental sustainability.
