Prysmian to strengthen its global leadership in submarine cables as Transmission accelerates towards full vertical integration

Acquisition of Spain-based ACSM brings subsea surveying, seabed preparation and new installation solutions in-house

Prysmian's fleet is expanding, following its recent acquisition of Acsm, a Spanish company specializing in submarine cable installation solutions, including marine surveying, route planning and seabed preparation, with more than 20 years of experience in the sector the The deal is valued at €169 million (including a €24 million investment in a vessel to be delivered to Acsm in the fourth quarter of 2025). The transaction will be financed using available cash in Prysmian's balance sheet. The deal is expected to close by February.

Strengthen Prysmian's global leadership in submarine cables

ACSM, headquartered in Vigo, Spain, has been operating in 60 countries for over 20 years, with over 350 employees and a track record of hundreds of completed submarine operations. In 2024, ACSM revenues amounted to €62 million and EBITDA was €22 million. As of December 31, 2024, ACSM's net debt was €14.4 million. "The transaction will strengthen Prysmian's global leadership in submarine cables. The integration of ACSM will broaden Prysmian's range of solutions for energy and telecom customers, offering a single source and accelerating the full vertical integration of its submarine operations, contributing industry-leading know-how and assets," the statement added.

ACSM’s role in submarine cable installation

Acsm's solutions and resources are essential for submarine cable installation, as projects require pre-installation surveys to facilitate an effective, timely, and safe process, including route planning, and post-installation surveys to ensure cable operation. After pre-installation surveys, preparatory activities must be carried out and often obstacles must be overcome, before or during cable installation. These include activities such as route clearance, rock and debris removal, unexploded ordnance removal, dredging to remove obstacles, and so-called "mattress installation," in which concrete blocks are placed around the cable for safety. To carry out these activities, Acsm has a suite of unmanned underwater robots (ROVs), trenching machines, and survey equipment, as well as three vessels.
