Salerno Container Terminal has achieved a landmark result in the nineteenth week of the year, handling a total of 10,640 TEUs, facilitated by the berthing and handling of 21 vessels. According to a press release, the weekly data shows a substantial balance between full containers unloaded and loaded, with unloaded containers accounting for just 15% of the total. The cold chain also confirmed its strategic importance, with reefer container traffic accounting for almost 10% of total volumes. In terms of exports, North America was the main market for goods leaving the Salerno terminal, accounting for 38% of shipments, followed by the Mediterranean area with 25% and Northern Europe with 20%.
This weekly result is consistent with a positive forecast: the company expects overall throughput for the current year to be between 430,000 and 450,000 TEU. If confirmed, this target would represent growth in volumes of up to 8%, compared to the 416,000 TEU recorded the previous year.

SCT President Agostino Gallozzi explained that these figures confirm the effectiveness of the operational decisions, innovations, and infrastructure investments recently implemented to increase the terminal's throughput capacity, with a view to future developments. Gallozzi also highlighted an even more ambitious outlook: the peak recorded this week demonstrates that if these figures were projected over the course of a year, the terminal, even in its current configuration, has the capacity to handle and exceed the 500,000 TEU milestone.
The Salerno Container Terminal (SCT) is a privately-owned maritime facility in the Port of Salerno, Italy. It acts as a major strategic gateway connecting global shipping networks to import and export markets in Central and Southern Italy. Operated by the Gallozzi Group, the terminal serves as an independent enterprise, providing services to major global shipping lines and local supply chains.
