Costa Serena will return to the Mediterranean in 2027, after more than a decade spent in Asian seas. This is according to the recently published summer 2027 cruise program by Costa Cruises. The ship, built in 2007, will return to the Mediterranean after a previously announced winter season in South America. The transatlantic crossing is scheduled for the end of April, arriving at Costa's Palacrociere cruise terminal in Savona, Italy.
The return of Costa Serena is part of the broader growth of cruise tourism globally. The demand for luxury cruises and immersive travel experiences in regions like the Mediterranean and South America has seen a significant uptick in recent years, driven by increasing interest in heritage tourism, gastronomy, and beach destinations. Costa Cruises continues to lead the way, positioning itself as a key player in Mediterranean cruising, one of the world’s most popular regions for leisure travel and cultural exploration.

The Costa Serena will initially depart from port on a 12-night cruise to Spain, Portugal, France, Morocco, and Italy. The short spring program will then include a 14-night cruise in the eastern Mediterranean, departing and returning from Savona. The two-week cruise will include destinations throughout southern Europe, with visits to the Greek islands and Malta, as well as France, Spain, and Italy.
In addition to its main ports Costa Serena will also make regular visits to the islands of Mykonos and Argostoli. The itinerary will be available until early September, when Costa Serena will return to the Western Mediterranean for short cruises to Italy, Spain, and France. Before returning to Europe, the ship is also expected to offer its first winter season in South America in nearly 15 years.
After a round-the-world cruise departing from Tokyo, the 112,000-ton ship will arrive in the region at the end of December 2026. The ship will sail from Buenos Aires, Rio de Janeiro, and Montevideo and offer a series of three- to nine-night cruises to Brazil, Argentina, and Uruguay until April 2027.
The Mediterranean cruise market is one of the largest and fastest-growing sectors in the global cruise industry. As travelers increasingly seek both heritage destinations and modern luxury experiences, the Costa Serena’s return is a testament to the ongoing expansion of Mediterranean tourism. The 12-night Western Mediterranean cruise and 14-night Eastern Mediterranean itinerary that the ship will offer provide a mix of historic cities and stunning coastal views, catering to both leisure travelers and business visitors looking for a combination of relaxation and exploration.
The Costa Serena is a large 114,147-ton Concordia-class cruise ship operated by Costa Crociere (Costa Cruises), launched in 2007 and designed with a theme of classical mythology. It carries up to 3,780 passengers and has recently been deployed in the Asian market for charter cruises, featuring amenities like a Samsara Spa, multiple pools, and themed lounges
