The order book is worth $76.9 billion, with an average cost of approximately $1 billion per ship

According to Cruise Industry News' latest global cruise ship order book update, The cruise industry is now expected to add 77 ships and over 200,000 berths over the next decade, according to the latest update of Cruise Industry News’Recent orders from Royal Caribbean, MSC Cruises, and Mystic have led to a significant increase in the industry’s expected capacity growth. New ships on order now average approximately 2,600 guests at 115,000 tons. The new vessels now have an overall capacity of 2,598 passengers, as well as an overall size of 114,936 tons.Just before the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, shipyards had commissioned more than 100 newbuilds.

Cruise Industry News estimates the order book is worth $76.9 billion, with an average cost of approximately $1 billion per ship. Royal Caribbean Group has ten ships on order, the last two of which were recently commissioned from Chantiers de l’Atlantique. Featuring a new design, the ships will be part of the Discovery class and are expected to enter service in 2029 and 2032.

Recent orders for MSC Cruises

Regarding recent orders, MSC Cruises also placed a major new order in early 2026, adding four new ships to its order book, which now stands at 14. The final ships will be built at the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany. Atlas Ocean Voyages announced plans to build a new ship in early 2026, confirming an order previously rumored to have been placed with the China Merchants shipyard. The company's new ship, scheduled to debut in 2028, will feature a unique wind-powered design and will be able to accommodate up to 400 passengers.

In 2026, the cruise industry will introduce 13 new ships to its fleet, adding 27,107 new berths to the market, spanning 12 brands: Viking will take delivery of two ships with the list, followed by several large ships from Royal Caribbean International, Norwegian Cruise Line, Adora Cruises, and MSC Cruises, and the launch of a series of luxury vessels for brands such as Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Orient Express, Explora Journeys, and Four Seasons

As previously reported by Cruise Industry News, the vessels will debut for 12 brands, including Viking, which is taking delivery of two ships. The lineup is also highlighted by large ships from Royal Caribbean International, Norwegian Cruise Line, Adora Cruises and MSC Cruises.A range of luxury vessels is also set to debut for brands like Regent Seven Seas Cruises, Orient Express, Explora Journeys and Four Seasons.
