The Chinese shipping company Cosco has announced that it has reopened container bookings to some Persian Gulf countries after they were interrupted for three weeks due to the war against Iran waged by the US and Israel. Despite Tehran allowing some Chinese vessels stranded in the Gulf to pass through, the Shanghai-based state-owned company was among several shipping groups that suspended operations in the Strait of Hormuz.
Following Iranian announcements that "non-hostile" vessels will be permitted to transit the Strait, Cosco has decided to resume new container bookings for general cargo shipments from the Far East to the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Kuwait and Iraq with immediate effect. However, no details have been provided regarding voyages out of the Gulf.
