Admiral Osama Rabie, Chairman of the Suez Canal Authority (SCA), received Ambassador Ahmed Fawzy El-Sherif, the Egyptian Ambassador to Panama, to discuss ways to enhance cooperation between the two nations. The meeting took place at the Authority's headquarters in the Guidance Building in the Ismailia Governorate. The visit is of great significance as it was the inaugural visit to the Suez Canal Authority ( SCA ) prior to Ambassador Ahmed Fawzy El-Sherif assuming his post as Egypt's ambassador to Panama.
At the beginning of the meeting, Admiral Osama Rabie expressed his pride in the long-standing strategic relationship with the Panama Canal Authority, emphasising his continued commitment to exchanging views and working together to further develop bilateral relations.
The Chairman of the Authority explained that the maritime transport industry and shipping lanes have been affected by climate and geopolitical challenges in recent years. He emphasised the importance of joint efforts and coordination at this time to protect common interests and ensure the sustainability of global supply chains

Admiral Rabie noted that reports from the Suez Canal Authority (SCA) have shown a gradual recovery in the number of container ships transiting the Canal, with several major shipping lines resuming their services through it instead of circumnavigating the Cape of Good Hope.

In contrast, Ambassador Ahmed Fawzy El-Sherif, the Egyptian Ambassador to Panama, expressed his desire to strengthen the existing cooperation between the Suez and Panama Canals in various areas. He noted that the two sides have much in common. The Egyptian Ambassador to Panama made it clear that he intends to make efforts to communicate and coordinate more between the Suez Canal and the Panama Canal. He also said that he wants to see if they can hold events together that are related to maritime and cultural matters
