A tender worth PLN 2.5bn (around $640m) has been launched in Poland for marine works at a planned deepwater container port in Świnoujście. The port is designed to handle up to 2m TEU a year. The Maritime Office in Szczecin has released a statement saying this. The tender, which opened on 3 November, covers the Przylądek Pomerania project in Pomeranian Bay, where 186 hectares of land will be reclaimed to the east of the existing LNG terminal.
It is estimated that about 3 km of quays will be included in the new outer port, which is intended to accommodate the largest containerships able to enter the Baltic, allowing direct intercontinental services to be handled by Świnoujście. The Maritime Office and Polish port company Zarząd Morskich Portów Szczecin i Świnoujście SA (ZMPSiŚ) are seeking one contractor under a joint design-and-build agreement, to be awarded through competitive dialogue.

The seafaring body's projects comprise 3,350-metre and 1,580-metre breakwaters, an entry channel, a turning basin, navigational aids and dredging. ZMPSiŚ will oversee the construction of a 1,300-metre-long, 530-metre-wide container pier, a harbour basin, shore protection and a 120-metre auxiliary quay. Approximately 20,000 cubic metres of dredged material are to be utilised for the reclamation process, according to Wojciech Zdanowicz, the director of the Maritime Office. The planned harbour depth is 17 metres.
Arkadiusz Marchewka, the deputy infrastructure minister, contrasted the project with a 2023 proposal for 40 hectares of land, 750 metres of quays and a depth of 14.5 metres. Applications to participate close on 2 December 2026.
The contract duration of 23 months was set by the procurement notice, which was published on 4 November, and the selection of a contractor is targeted for the third quarter of 2027. Jarosław Siergiej, president of ZMPSiŚ, said the tender would signal progress to shipping and logistics businesses.
The project's preparatory work commenced in July under a contract awarded to the Polish contractor Usługi Transportowo-Budowlane Bernard Baranowski for PLN 27.53m ($7.1m). This covers the construction of more than 2.5 km of temporary access roads, as well as the installation of electricity and drainage infrastructure and gas pipeline protection. A discrete 70-km approach channel programme is appraised at PLN 7.3bn ($1.87bn), encompassing PLN 2.8bn ($717m) of anticipated EU funding. The channel is intended for ships up to 400 metres long, 60 metres wide, and with a draught of 15 metres.
